Date night!

A true man does not need to romance a different girl every night, a true man romances the same girl for the rest of her life. – Ana Alas

I have always loved this quotation and Wes – he loves the romance and the good old date night! (I must post on our “first” date one day, he recreated a beach in the middle of Rivonia, yes he did.) We often go out for dinner or snacks and cocktails or to the Bird Gardens at Monte or to the movies or for a walk after work or a Sunday afternoon but obviously mostly these days our longest chats take place whilst cycling, anyway we do anything really where we can be together doing something different and just chat.

On Saturday was a particularly difficult day for me as it was my grandpa’s (on my dad’s side) funeral. The heartbreak that is rife in this family from ALL sides was succinctly summarised by one of my dad’s gorgeous aunts, “Vandag huil ons almal vir jare se hartseer, die trane wat vandag loop is vir soveel meer en ons mag maar want dis ‘n begrafnis en by ‘n begrafnis kom die trane maklik en sonder beoordeling.” (“Today we cry for the sadness experienced through the years, the tears that pour down our cheeks today represent so much more and we may cry because it is a funeral and at a funeral the tears flow easier and without fear of judgement.”). As a family my ma, sis and I said goodbye to so much more than my grandpa that day, but this is a story for another day.

After the service, a lunch with the family and a few bottles of wine and ginger squares later Wes and I decided to go bowling, it was such fun! We were both running around high-fiving each other, cheering each other on and laughing so much whilst playing a brilliant less than average game that we built up quite an appetite.

We decided to go for some sea food, yum! We went to Cresta planning on eating at Ocean Basket  but we passed the Manhattan Grill on the way in and they were running a Prawns special (almost R100 less for 1kg of prawns than Ocean Basket).

An ENTIRE tray of prawns arrived in front of me and I burst out laughing, I didn’t even touch my rice or chips! The prawns were unbelievably meaty and the lemon-butter sauce one of the best. I will definitely be going back some time soon.

This was definitely a date night to remember and we spent hours and hours chatting about everything and anything.

It is so easy to get stuck into a rut where you just party or end up watching series or movies with your partner so I highly recommend scheduling date nights into your busy lives (or just going on random unplanned ones too). This is important time for a couple to rediscover each other,  talk without interference and just enjoy each other’s company!
